ASCOMS Jammu MBBS 2026 overview

Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences and Hospital (ASCOMS) is a private medical college at Sidhra, Jammu, established in 1996 and affiliated to the University of Jammu. NMC's 17 October 2025 MBBS matrix increased the institution's intake from 100 to 150 for AY 2025–26. NMC describes recognition for the earlier 100-seat intake and the 2025–26 letter of permission for the 50-seat increase.

MBBS admission follows NEET UG and counselling by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE/BOPEE). ASCOMS's official admission affidavit states that selection was through NEET and BOPEE counselling. A college enquiry, donation claim or private payment cannot replace an official allotment.

ASCOMS is unusual because historical admission documents refer not only to annual tuition but also a bank guarantee/FDR for future years and liability if a student leaves midway. The 2026 undertaking must be read before locking the choice, not after reporting.

The increase to 150 is not the same as full recognition of every increased seat for all future years. Match the final 2026 NMC permission with BOPEE's live seat matrix. If the two sources appear inconsistent, rely on the latest competent notices and seek written clarification.

ASCOMS MBBS admission process

  1. Download the NTA result: preserve the NEET UG 2026 scorecard, admit card, score and All India Rank.
  2. Read BOPEE's 2026 information: confirm domicile/residency, category and private-college eligibility.
  3. Register on the official portal: complete application, payment and document upload within the notified window.
  4. Resolve verification issues: ensure identity, marks, domicile and quota certificates match the prescribed formats.
  5. Open the live matrix: confirm ASCOMS's total/category vacancies and exact codes for the round.
  6. Read the fee and guarantee terms: obtain the 2026 tuition, other dues, bank-guarantee/FDR and discontinuation documents.
  7. Enter preferences honestly: include ASCOMS only if the candidate is eligible and the complete liability is affordable.
  8. Download allotment: an official BOPEE allocation establishes the reporting opportunity.
  9. Report within deadline: carry originals, prescribed affidavits and authorised payment instruments.

Follow each round's joining, upgradation, surrender and vacancy rules. Do not share the counselling password or OTP. An intermediary cannot guarantee a specific category or bypass merit.

Government, management, poor/backward and NRI categories

ASCOMS's historical official admission document uses OM/HM, P&B and NRI fee labels, while older government materials describe government, management, poor/backward and NRI categories. These terms must be mapped to the exact 2026 BOPEE matrix and eligibility rules; abbreviations alone are not enough.

The increase from 100 to 150 seats can alter category counts. Do not extrapolate the 2026 distribution from a 100-seat order or an older selection list. Check the round-wise matrix and any conversion notice. A seat shown in the institutional total may not be available to the candidate's category.

NRI eligibility requires the prescribed relationship/status/sponsorship evidence, not merely the ability to pay the dollar fee. Poor/backward or reserved benefits also require valid documents in the notified format and date.

ASCOMS Jammu cutoff 2026

The valid 2026 cutoff is the last allotted NEET rank in an official BOPEE result for ASCOMS, the exact category and the exact round. It is not the NTA qualifying percentile. A qualifying score only permits counselling participation subject to BOPEE eligibility.

Historical comparisons should use the same quota code, year and round. Government/OM, management, poor/backward and NRI results cannot be merged into one ASCOMS cutoff. Marks-to-rank conversion changes annually, so AIR or BOPEE merit rank is the safer comparison unit when clearly labelled.

Choice-list method

  • Aspirational: the candidate's rank is weaker than comparable official closes.
  • Competitive: rank is near several comparable results with meaningful uncertainty.
  • Relatively safer: rank is stronger than comparable evidence, without any guarantee.

Seat increase can affect movement, but it does not prove a lower cutoff. Candidate preferences, category distribution, fees and vacancies also change.

ASCOMS MBBS fees and bank guarantee

The final 2026 fee and guarantee must come from the current government/BOPEE order and ASCOMS reporting document. The official 2024 affidavit provides useful historical evidence: first-year tuition of ₹4,95,000 for OM/HM, ₹42,900 for P&B and USD 21,522 for NRI, plus other dues.

That affidavit required a bank guarantee for tuition for years 2–5: ₹19,80,000 for OM/HM, ₹1,71,600 for P&B or USD 86,088 for NRI—or four pledged FDRs equal to one year's tuition. It also stated that revised fees approved from time to time would be payable. These are 2024 conditions, not confirmed 2026 terms.

Why the guarantee changes affordability

A family may be able to pay the first year but unable to arrange a bank guarantee or four pledged FDRs. Ask a bank in advance about collateral, margin, commission, validity, renewal and documentation. Do not assume an education-loan sanction automatically satisfies the college guarantee.

The 2024 affidavit stated that failure to furnish the guarantee within the stipulated time could lead to consequences including cancellation. It also stated that a student leaving or abandoning the course could be liable for tuition for the remaining duration. Obtain the exact 2026 undertaking before option locking and seek professional clarification if any clause is unclear.

Build a year-wise budget covering revised tuition risk, other dues, hostel, mess, university/examination charges, books, travel, guarantee costs and personal expenses. Pay only to the authorised beneficiary and preserve every demand, receipt and acknowledgement.

ASCOMS hospital and clinical evaluation

The official About page describes the original institution with 507 beds, while the Citizen's Charter describes ASCOMS Medical College and Hospital as 600-bedded, including emergency and critical-care areas. The later hospital-facing charter is useful profile evidence, but candidates should verify current functional department-wise beds and occupancy.

The official clinical-material page publishes a bed-strength distribution and service details. Use this to assess medicine, surgery, obstetrics-gynaecology, paediatrics and allied departments. The campus is at Sidhra, around 10 km from Jammu's main city according to the charter.

Evidence to request

  • Latest MARB/NMC disclosure with monthly OPD and IPD numbers.
  • Current functional beds, occupancy and emergency activity.
  • Department units, faculty and resident strength.
  • Operation-theatre, labour-room, ICU/NICU and diagnostic activity.
  • Clinical group size after the intake increased to 150.
  • Internship rotation, duty and stipend notice.

A 600-bed description does not guarantee individual bedside access. Visit on a normal working day and ask current students about history taking, examination, procedures and feedback.

Academic resource audit after the seat increase

The 2025–26 intake increase from 100 to 150 means candidates should check whether teaching resources expanded with the batch. Ask how students are divided for anatomy dissection, laboratory practicals, tutorials, skills-lab sessions and clinical postings.

ASCOMS's infrastructure page lists lecture theatres and departmental laboratories. Verify current capacity, library seating, simulation access, hostel availability and faculty/unit lists. Regulatory permission establishes a sanctioned intake, not the day-to-day quality of small-group teaching.

Review the current competency-based curriculum, academic calendar, assessments, remediation, electives, mentoring and research access. Speak with students from both earlier 100-seat batches and the newer larger cohort where possible.

Sidhra location, hostel and student support

The official address is Bye Pass Road, Sidhra, Jammu 180017. Verify travel time from Jammu railway station/airport and whether hostel, college and hospital are within the same complex. Transport matters during early clinical postings and emergencies.

Obtain the current hostel notice covering room occupancy, availability, deposits, mess, electricity, internet, security, curfew, transport, fee revision and refund. Do not assume accommodation or food is included in tuition or “other dues”.

Ask about anti-ragging arrangements, mentoring, counselling, grievance redressal, campus health and safety. Weather, travel and distance from home should be considered for a long residential course.

BOPEE and ASCOMS reporting documents

  • BOPEE application, payment and verification records.
  • Official selection/allotment letter.
  • NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard.
  • Class 10 and Class 12 certificates/marksheets.
  • Government identity, photographs and domicile/residency evidence.
  • Category and poor/backward certificates in the current prescribed form.
  • NRI status, relationship and sponsorship evidence where applicable.
  • Transfer, migration, conduct, gap and medical-fitness certificates as required.
  • Bank guarantee/FDR and affidavits if required by the 2026 reporting notice.
  • Anti-ragging undertakings and fee-payment proof.

ASCOMS published a separate documents-required notice for 2025, showing why an old generic list is insufficient. Use the 2026 BOPEE bulletin plus college checklist. Obtain acknowledgement for any original retained.

Post-allotment safety workflow

  1. Match ASCOMS name, category and round on the BOPEE allotment.
  2. Download the current college reporting checklist and fee affidavit.
  3. Reconcile tuition, other dues and guarantee with controlling orders.
  4. Confirm reporting deadline, campus and payment beneficiary.
  5. Prepare originals, quota evidence, guarantee/FDR and affidavits.
  6. Read revised-fee and remaining-course-liability clauses before signing.
  7. Pay only through the official method and collect itemised receipts.
  8. Obtain admission and original-document acknowledgement.

Independently verify any last-minute bank-detail change using the official ASCOMS contact page. Never transfer money to a personal account or agent.

How to compare ASCOMS with another college

Compare the same eligible quota and fee year. Include total tuition, guarantee/FDR cost, revised-fee risk, other dues, hostel/living cost, comparable official cutoffs, current intake, hospital activity, clinical group size, faculty/units, travel and discontinuation terms.

ASCOMS's historical base tuition may look lower than some private colleges, but liquidity locked in a guarantee and remaining-course liability can change affordability. Rank only options the family can finance under written terms.

Common mistakes

  • Calling the 150-seat 2025–26 matrix guaranteed for 2026.
  • Using a 100-seat-era category split after the increase.
  • Calling 2024 tuition the final 2026 fee.
  • Ignoring bank guarantee/FDR and future-fee liability.
  • Assuming NRI is available without eligibility evidence.
  • Mixing category and round cutoffs.
  • Assuming hostel is included in “other dues”.
  • Treating 600 beds as proof of personal clinical exposure.
  • Paying without BOPEE allotment or to an intermediary.

No private payment or enquiry replaces NEET eligibility and official BOPEE allotment.

Final decision rule
