Bihar MBBS admission 2026: current position
Bihar MBBS/BDS state counselling is conducted by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) under the name Under Graduate Medical Admission Counselling (UGMAC). Candidates need a valid NEET UG 2026 result, but NTA does not allocate Bihar state/private seats. BCECEB registration, merit preparation, choices, allotment and reporting are separate steps.
BCECEB explicitly states that website summaries are only guidance and the prospectus is the officially authorised information. As of 19 July 2026, the UGMAC-2026 board existed but the detailed prospectus/schedule had not been located on the public page. Candidates should monitor the exact official URL rather than using a copied timetable.
NMC published an undergraduate seat matrix for AY 2026–27 on 14 July 2026. That regulatory matrix establishes approved college intake; BCECEB's UGMAC matrix determines seats/categories offered through Bihar counselling. Both must be checked because the totals serve different purposes.

UGMAC registration does not automatically register a candidate for MCC, and vice versa. A Bihar candidate seeking maximum options may need both portals, separate payments, separate choice lists and careful round-rule coordination.
Bihar UGMAC eligibility
The 2026 prospectus will control age, academic, nationality, residence and category rules. At minimum, MBBS admission requires the NEET UG qualifying result and the prescribed Class 12/equivalent subjects and marks under applicable regulations. Do not infer state-quota eligibility from birthplace alone.
Bihar domicile/residence claims must be supported by the certificate and issuing authority named in the prospectus. Reservation or women-category benefits require valid category documentation and may involve separate category rows. - Fill fresh choices when required: previous choices may become void after a revised process, as occurred in 2025.

- Complete admission: present originals, pay only authorised fees and obtain acknowledgement.
Read notices after every round. In 2025, revised matrices, fresh choice filling and added seats changed the process. A saved old choice list is not proof that choices remain active.
Bihar government and private MBBS seats
The final 2026 UGMAC matrix should be used for all calculations. Government-college rows typically show the state-counselling seats remaining after applicable AIQ/central deductions and distribute them across UR, SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS, women and other notified categories.
For historical context, Bihar's 2025 private matrix initially listed 1,350 MBBS seats across nine private colleges. It divided 675 seats at government-medical-college fee and 675 at private-medical-college fee, with private-fee rows further showing open/minority/NRI distributions. Later 2025 notices added seats and a new institution, proving that an early matrix can change.
Do not call this 1,350 the 2026 total. NMC approvals, new colleges, intake increases and BCECEB updates can alter the list. Download the revised matrix immediately before choice locking.
How to read the Bihar seat matrix
- Institution: match full official college name and location.
- Course: distinguish MBBS from BDS/veterinary/AYUSH rows.
- Fee class: government-fee and private-fee seats in the same private college can have very different costs.
- Category: read UR, SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS, female/reserved and disabled codes through the legend.
- Minority/NRI: verify eligibility documents, not merely vacancy.
- Round vacancy: use the current round, not the original annual total.

Bihar MBBS cutoff 2026
The final cutoff is the last allotted NEET/UGMAC rank for one college, seat class, category and round. It cannot be confirmed before counselling. The national qualifying cutoff is only an entrance threshold and not a college admission cutoff.
Use AIR or UGMAC rank exactly as the official result defines it. Marks-to-rank changes each year. Government college, government-fee private, private-fee, minority and NRI closes must be analysed separately. Round 1 and stray-vacancy results are not interchangeable.
Build realistic options
- Aspirational: candidate rank is weaker than comparable historical closes.
- Competitive: rank lies near comparable evidence.
- Relatively safer: rank is stronger across several comparable rounds, not guaranteed.

Bihar MBBS fees and security deposits
Government-college tuition, government-fee seats inside private colleges, private-fee seats, minority and NRI seats can carry different financial terms. The same college name does not imply one price. Use BCECEB's 2026 fee matrix plus the college's itemised reporting notice.
Do not reuse a 2025 registration fee, counselling security deposit or tuition amount. Confirm whether payments are refundable/adjustable, accepted mode, refund timeline and consequences of non-joining or resignation. NRI fee may involve currency/conversion conditions.

Government-fee seats in private colleges
Bihar's 2025 matrix is notable because it explicitly placed 50% of listed private-college seats under government-medical-college fee and 50% under private-medical-college fee. Candidates should not assume this structure or ratio remains unchanged for 2026, but they should actively inspect the new matrix for equivalent fee-coded opportunities.
A government-fee seat inside a private college remains an allotment in that private institution; hospital, hostel, academics and location should still be evaluated. The lower tuition does not turn it into a government college, and its cutoff may differ sharply from the private-fee category.

For every college, calculate the cash required at reporting, later annual payments and the amount exposed if the candidate upgrades or resigns. A choice is safe only when eligibility, merit, finance and willingness to join all align.
